Wednesday 2/6: Komal Kapoor will be reading from Unfollowing You, her first poetry collection. She will be in conversation with Nikki Blades. The Bindery in San Francisco at 7 p.m. ($16.50, tickets required).

Join instructors and friends from Berkeley’s Left Margin LIT for a night of readings. Shanti Sekaran (Lucky Boy), Porter Shreve (The End of the Book), David Roderick (The Americans), Faith Adiele (Meeting Faith), and Melanie Abrams (Playing) will be reading. Novel Brewing Company in Oakland at 7 p.m.

Don’t miss this week’s Local Book Pick event! Esmé Weijun Wang will be reading from her newest collection of essays, The Collected Schizophrenias. Wang will be in conversation with R. O. Kwon (The Incendiaries). Green Apple Books on the Park in San Francisco at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday 2/7: Science journalist Alice Robb will be reading from Why We Dream: The Transformative Power of Our Nightly Journey. Robb will be in conversation with Isaac Chotiner, staff writer for the New Yorker. Books Inc. in Berkeley at 7 p.m.

Poet Analicia Sotelo (Virgin) will be reading as a part of the Center for Literary Arts reading series. She will be joined by the poet ASHA as well as Vanessa Fernandez, Assistant Professor of Spanish at SJSU. San José Museum of Art in San José at 7 p.m.

Friday 2/8: Holocaust survivor Sylvia Ruth Gutmann will be reading from her memoir, A Life Rebuilt: The Remarkable Transformation of a War Orphan. A Great Good Place for Books in Oakland at 7 p.m.

Poets Juliana Spahr (That Winter the Wolf Came) and Jasmine Gibson (Don’t Let Them See Me Like This) will be reading as part of the Writers in Common series sponsored by the Poetry Center at SFSU. Moe’s Books in Berkeley at 7 p.m.

Stanford University will be hosting “Flight, Diaspora, Identity, & Afterlife,” a daylong symposium on the life and work of Michael Richards. This symposium is in conjunction with the exhibition “Michael Richards: Winged” at the Stanford Art Gallery. Stanford Art Gallery at Stanford University from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Saturday 2/9: Come explore the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden and learn how to make a botanical tea in honor of Valentine’s Day! University of California Botanical Garden in Berkeley at 10 a.m. ($16–$24, tickets required).

It’s time for another Writers with Drinks! This month’s event features Gayle Brandeis (The Art of Misdiagnosis), Laleh Khadivi (A Good Country), Chris Denson (Crushing the Box: 10 Essential Rules for Breaking Essential Rules), David Brothers, Lisa Margonelli (Underbug), and Charlie Jane Anders (The City in the Middle of the Night). Make-Out Room in San Francisco at 7 p.m. ($5–$20 at the door).

Sunday 2/10: Andrena Zawinski, Lenore Weiss, Rachel Dacus, Kathleen McClung, Eileen Malone, and Carol Lynn Grellis will be reading at this month’s Poetry Flash! East Bay Booksellers in Oakland at 3 p.m.

Don’t miss this panel discussion on “Race in America: Where We Are and Where We’re Headed.” This event will feature Brian Copeland (Not a Genuine Black Man: My Life as an Outlaw), Julie Lythcott-Haims (Real American), R. O. Kwon (The Incendiaries), and Ingrid Rojas Contreras (Fruit of the Drunken Tree). Book Passage in Corte Madera at 6 p.m.

Monday 2/11: Kim Hyesoon and Don Mee Choi will be discussing Hyesoon’s new book Autobiography of Death, translated by Choi. They will be joined by poets Forrest Gander and Brenda Hillman. Green Apple Books on the Park in San Francisco at 7:30 p.m.

Join Vandana Shiva (Who Really Feeds the World?: The Failures of Agribusiness and the Promise of Agroecology) and Vijaya Nagarajan (Feeding a Thousand Souls: Women, Ritual, and Ecology in India—An Exploration of the Kolam) for a conversation on women, rituals, and ecology in India. First Congregational Church in Berkeley at 7:30 p.m.($12–$15, tickets required).

Tuesday 2/12: Joyce Carol Oates will be reading from her newest book, Hazards of Time Travel. City Lights Booksellers in San Francisco at 7 p.m.

Don’t miss Yangsze Choo’s book launch! She will be reading from her debut novel, The Night Tiger. Books Inc. in Mountain View at 7 p.m.
